HRB introduces a new Evidence for Policy research programme
The Evidence-for-Policy (EfP) Research Programme is a pilot funding call that has been co-designed by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Health Research Board (HRB) to harness academic research in support of policy decision making.

The programme aims to generate evidence to inform policy making in health and social care in a timely, rigorous, and transparent manner. The scheme is designed to advance research in areas highlighted in the Department’s “Statement of Priorities - Health and Social Care research (2023-2025)”
Announcing the scheme opening today, Minister Donnelly said,
“This new Evidence for Policy programme is directly targeted at strengthening the link between the policy challenges we face, and the research effort needed to support the decisions of Government. It will bring together researchers and policymakers to develop innovative solutions that will strengthen and improve the delivery of healthcare in Ireland.”
Dr Mairéad O’Driscoll, Chief Executive at the HRB added,
“The Evidence for Policy funding programme will support research that addresses evidence gaps that are a priority for health and social care policy in Ireland. With our experience in the design, review and management of research grants and the clear direction set out in the department’s Statement of Priorities, the scheme should ensure that the expertise of the research community delivers evidence that will inform the policymaking process in a systematic, responsive and transparent way.”
