Applications in progress
Conference and Event Sponsorship Scheme (CES) 2024
The HRB Conference and Event Sponsorship Scheme (CES 2024) closed on 8 February 2024. From the 52 applications received, one was deemed out of scope and 51 are currently under panel review.
Emerging Clinician Scientist Awards (ECSA) 2024
The full application stage is currently underway with a deadline in March. The peer and public review and the applicant response stage will be completed by June, followed by the international panel review. The interview Panel meeting will take place on 4-5 September 2024.
Emerging Investigator Awards (EIA) 2024
The full application stage is currently underway with a deadline in March. The peer and public review and the applicant response stage will be completed by June, followed by the international panel review. The international interview Panel meeting will take place on 10-11 September 2024.
Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2024
Five applications were received by the 27 October 2023 deadline. The Fullbright Commission are managing the call.
Summer Student Scholarships 2024
108 eligible applications underwent an audited randomisation process on 19 February 2024 and 54 applications were selected for funding, which equals to a 50% success rate of all eligible applications. The HRB received 127 applications and 19 were deemed ineligible
Open Calls
Applied Partnership Awards (APA) 2024
This call opened 10 January 2024. It will be a rolling call with two closing dates. Cycle I will close 10 April 2024, and cycle II will close 18 December 2024.
Health Research Charities Ireland-Health Research Board (HRCI-HRB 2024)
The 2024 round of the HRCI-HRB Joint Funding Scheme is currently open. The scheme aims to fund researchers and research teams to conduct internationally competitive and innovative research in areas of strategic relevance to each individual charity. Individual charities will set opening and closing dates.
HRB-DOH Evidence for Policy (EfP) Pilot 2024
The HRB recently launched the Evidence-for-Policy (EfP) Programme, a new collaborative initiative with the Department of Health.
US-Ireland Research and Development Partnership Programme
This is a rolling call. Check the scheme notice for full details.
JPI-AMR Joint Transnational Call 2024
Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance 2024. The deadline for submission of pre-proposals to this call on “Interventions moving forward to promote action to counteract the emergence and spread of bacterial and fungal resistance and to improve treatments (AMR Interventions)” is 14 March 2024.
European Partnership for Personalised Medicine (EP PerMed)
The Health Research Board and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) are collaborating to support Irish researchers in this call on “Identification or Validation of Targets for Personalised Medicine Approaches (PMTargets)”. The deadline for submission of pre-proposals to this call is 5 March 2024.

Upcoming calls
All-Ireland NCI Cancer Consortium (AICC) - Research & Innovation Grant Scheme 2024
The AICC scheme is intended as a pilot with a dedicated funding stream to prime cancer research activity across the 3 key AICC priority areas: Cancer Care Delivery and Survivorship; Clinical Research and Trials; Genomic and Precision Medicine. The call will open 1 March 2024.
There will be an information webinar on 12 March 2024. The registration details to be posted shortly on the call notice on the HRB website.
