HRB Postdoctoral Fellowships: Applying Research into Policy and Practice (ARPP) 2023

The HRB Board approved six ARPP 2023 awards following recommendations from an international review panel in September 2023. All applicants and Host Institutions have been notified of the outcome. Eleven applications were received.  Ten were shortlisted and nine candidates were interviewed by an international Panel (one application was withdrawn).

 

HRB Postdoctoral Fellowships: Clinician Scientist Fellowships (CSF) 2023

The HRB Board approved seven CSF 2023 awards following recommendations from an international review panel in September 2023. All applicants and Host Institutions have been notified of the outcome. The HRB received 18 applications, 15 were shortlisted and interviewed by the international panel.

 

Doctoral Training Programme in Precision Medicine in Cancer (PMC) 2023

The application is currently under review and the final outcome is expected in October 2023.  This call is under the auspices of the Ireland-Northern Ireland-National Cancer Institute Cancer Consortium, the HRB and the HSC R&D Division in NI. Patient Safety Research Network (PSRN) 2023

This call is closed and the review process is underway.

 

Applied Programme Grants Scheme (APRO) 2023

Eight awards were approved by the HRB Board following the recommendations of the APRO Panel.  The HRB received a total of 33 applications, from which 30 passed on to the peer and public review phase.  Fourteen were subsequently shortlisted to attend the interview panel meeting. The overall success rate was 27%. The Lead Applicants and Host Institutions were recently informed of the outcome.

 

European Joint Transnational Calls 2023

Full proposals for the following calls are under evaluation. Coordinators will be informed of the outcome Q4 2023.

Open Calls

Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2024

The 2024 round of the Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards opened on 28 August 2023. The Fulbright Commission and the HRB are offering a unique opportunity for Irish professionals with five or more years’ experience in their field to travel to the USA to undertake research or professional development in any area of health. The closing date is 4.00 pm, 27 October 2023.

 

Investigator Led Awards (ILP 2024)

The 2024 round of the Investigator Led Awards will close at 1.00 pm on 11 October 2023. The scheme aims to support highly innovative and internationally competitive investigator-led projects that can respond to emerging challenges for health and social care.

 

Secondary Data Analysis Projects (SDAP) 2023 Cycle 2

The scheme remains open for applications for Cycle 2, however the closing date is fast approaching, 2.00 pm, 4 October 2023. The scheme supports bringing together researchers, knowledge users and data controllers to develop research projects that answer policy and/or practice-relevant questions through the use of secondary data.

 

Emerging Clinician Scientist Awards (ECSA) 2024

The 2024 round of Emerging Clinician Scientist Awards is currently open and the closing date for pre-applications is 23 November 2023. This scheme has a two-stage application process. The scheme targets health and social care practitioners from any professional background, medicine, nursing and midwifery, dentistry and any health and social care professions, who are involved in the delivery of patient or social care and are research active.
 

Emerging Investigator Awards (EIA) 2024

The 2024 round of Emerging Investigator Awards is currently open and the closing date for pre-applications is 9 November 2023. This scheme has a two-stage application process. The scheme targets academic postdoctoral researchers from different disciplines who are ready to transition towards research independence and can facilitate actionable knowledge in health research.

 

Health Research Charities Ireland-Health Research Board (HRCI-HRB 2024)

The 2024 round of the HRCI-HRB Joint Funding Scheme is now open. The scheme aims to fund researchers and research teams to conduct internationally competitive and innovative research in areas of strategic relevance to each individual charity. Individual charities will set opening and closing dates.

 

US-Ireland Research and Development Partnership Programme

Summer Student Scholarships 2024

The 2024 round of the Summer Student Scholarships will open on 16 October 2023 and will close for applications on Thursday 14 December 2023. The SS scheme support undergraduate students in health or social care-related disciplines to complete short research projects during the summer. The purpose of the scholarship scheme is to encourage an interest in research and give students an opportunity to become familiar with research techniques. If successful, the students will start their scholarships in early June 2024. The new timeframe of this call aims to facilitate successful students and their supervisors to obtain the necessary approvals (ethics or animal) prior to commencing the scholarship.
