All-Ireland NCI Cancer Consortium 2024

Following the panel’s ranking, five applications (two in Tier 1 and three in Tier 2) were recommended for funding and approved by the HRB Board in September. 

This was a pilot and learn scheme, and it will be reviewed before potentially launching again in late 2025.

Knowledge Translation Awards (KTA) 2024

25 applications, recommended for funding by the review panel, were approved by the HRB ET in late September an additional 5 applications were approved in November. Applicants have been informed of the outcome and contracting is under way.  

HRB Impact Award 2025 

Six nominations have been reviewed by an international Panel. The outcome will be notified to the nominators after approval of the funding recommendations and the winner will be announced at the HRB Grant holders conference in February 2025. 

Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2025

10 applications were submitted to the Fulbright Commission, who manage the call, by the  25 October 2024.

Summer Student Scholarships (SS) 2025

The call is currently open and the deadline for applications is 12 December at 1.00 pm.

Applied Partnership Awards (APA) 2024

This call opened 10 January 2024. It is a rolling call with two closing dates. Cycle 1 closed 10 April 2024. Cycle 2 is open to applications and will close 18 December 2024.  

The panel meeting for Cycle 1 was held on 12 September 2024. Seven applications were reviewed and three were recommended for funding. The outcome has been approved by the Board of the HRB, and applicants and host institutions have been notified. 

US-Ireland Research and Development Partnership Programme

ERA4Health Investigator-Initiated Clinical Studies 2025

This is a joint transnational call entitled “EffecTrial: fostering pragmatic comparative-effectiveness trials in non-communicable diseases”. It is currently open and the deadline for pre-proposal submission is 28 January 2025 at 15:00 GMT.  

A webinar info day will take place on 27 November 2024 at 13:30–16:30 GMT. Guidance for applicants based in Ireland will be published shortly on HRB’s webpage. 

Upcoming Calls

European Partnership on Transforming Health and Care Systems (THCS) 2025

This is a joint transnational call entitled “Better care closer to home: Enhancing primary and community care”. It will launch on 26 November 2024 with a deadline for pre-proposal submission of 30 January 2025 at 13:00 GMT.

An information webinar will take place on 17 December 2024 at 13:00–15:00 GMT (details of registration will be available on the call webpage after launch). Guidance for applicants based in Ireland will be published on HRB’s webpage shortly after the call launches.

Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) 2025

JPND will be launching a joint transnational call entitled “Health and social care research with a focus on the moderate and late stages of neurodegenerative diseases” in early January 2025, with a likely pre-proposal submission deadline in early March 2025.

Guidance for applicants based in Ireland will be published on HRB’s webpage shortly after the call launches.

ERA-NET NEURON 2025

ERA-NET NEURON are expected to launch a joint transnational call in early January 2025, with a likely pre-proposal submission deadline in early March 2025. The pre-announcement is expected in December and will be available on the ERA-NET NEURON webpage. Interested applicants can also contact HRB at HRB-JTCs@hrb.ie if they would like us to forward the pre-announcement directly.
