HRB Impact Award 2025

The outcome was recently notified to the nominators after internal approval of the funding recommendations and the winner will be announced at the HRB Grant holders conference in February 2025.

Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2025

A review of the 10 applications submitted to the Fulbright Commission is underway. The commission manages the call.

Summer Student Scholarships (SS) 2025

The HRB received 172 application by 12 December. Eligibility has started and will be completed by the end of January. The randomisation of the funding allocations will take place in February in the presence of two independent observers from the HRB Host Institutions’ Research Officers Group.

Applied Partnership Awards (APA) 2024

Opened 10 January 2024. It is a rolling call with two closing dates. Cycle 1 closed on 10 April 2024. Cycle 2 is open to applications and will close on 18 December 2024.

US-Ireland Research and Development Partnership Programme

ERA4Health Investigator-Initiated Clinical Studies 2025

A joint transnational call entitled “EffecTrial: fostering pragmatic comparative-effectiveness trials in non-communicable diseases”. It is currently open and the deadline for pre-proposal submission is 28 January 2025 at 15:00 GMT.

European Partnership on Transforming Health and Care Systems (THCS) 2025

A joint transnational call entitled “Better Care Closer to Home: Enhancing Primary and Community Care”. It is currently open and the deadline for pre-proposal submission is 30 January 2025 at 13:00 GMT.

An information webinar will take place on 17 December 2024 at 13:00–15:00 GMT (register here).

European Rare Diseases Research Alliance (ERDERA) 2025

This is a joint transnational call entitled “Pre-clinical therapy studies for rare diseases using small molecules and biologicals – development and validation”. It is currently open and the deadline for pre-proposal submission is 13 February 2025 at 13:00 GMT.

Upcoming Calls

Capacity building and research careers grants

The Board of the HRB has recently kick-started planning towards development of its new Strategy (2026-2030). To feed into that process, we have been reviewing our investments in capacity/careers to date and we wish to thank those who kindly provided feedback through surveys and interviews. We will present our analysis to the Board in Q1 2025, and we will revert later with an update on planned 2025 calls.

Conference and Event Sponsorship Scheme (CES) 2025

The HRB Conference and Event Sponsorship Scheme (CES 2025) will open at the end of January (Dates TBC). This scheme aims to create an opportunity to host health research-related events, workshops, or conferences in Ireland.

Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) 2025

JPND will launch a joint transnational call entitled “Health and social care research with a focus on the moderate and late stages of neurodegenerative diseases” in early January 2025, with a likely pre-proposal submission deadline in early March 2025.

Guidance for applicants based in Ireland will be published on HRB’s Grant Schemes webpage shortly after the call launches.

ERA-NET NEURON 2025

ERA-NET NEURON will launch a joint transnational call entitled “Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Neuroscience of Pain” in early January 2025, with a likely pre-proposal submission deadline in early March 2025.

Guidance for applicants based in Ireland, including the areas that HRB can cover, will be published on HRB’s Grant schemes webpage shortly after the call launches.

Secondary Data Analysis Projects (SDAP) 2025

The Secondary Data Analysis Projects 2025 Scheme will have two cycles and open for applications to Cycle 1 in February 2025. An information webinar will take place in January in advance of the call opening and this will be communicated to the host institutes with a registration link for circulation in advance.
