Lisbon Addictions 2019, the third European Conference on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies, which starts tomorrow is the largest multidisciplinary conference on addictions.

According to Dr Suzi Lyons, HRB,

‘The overarching theme for Addictions 2019 is The future of addictions: new frontiers for policy, practice and science. The conference will share some of the latest international research to help characterise, understand and respond to addiction and addictive behaviours. HRB work in the area will be showcased in a combination of seven presentations and a scientific poster’. 

Anne Marie Carew will make two presentations. The first, Hidden aspects of the opioid crisis: what factors are driving ageing trends among those using opioid drugs? and a second on Rising incidence of ageing opioid users within the EU wide treatment.

Brian Galvin will give a talk on The use of routine monitoring data in drugs policy debates in Ireland, France and The Czech Republic

Ena Lynn will present research on Drug poisoning deaths among women: a scoping review and A change in the prescribing practise of pregabalin: direct negative effect on drug-induced deaths in Ireland.

Suzi Lyons will also make two presentations on Trends in non-poisoning deaths in Ireland and Trends in treatment demand for problem cocaine use, as part of an EU-wide collaboration, as well as present a scientific poster on behalf of Anne Doyle and the recently published HRB research about The role of alcohol in fatal fires in Ireland.
