The Global Alcohol Policy Conference 2020 conference takes place in Dublin Castle from Monday 9 March to Wednesday 11 March 2020. There will be a number of side events associated with the main conference and these will take place on Sunday 8 March and Thursday 12 March.

Researchers from the HRB will present a number of papers and / or posters on the following topics:

  • Anne Doyle: Policy addressing impact of alcohol on fire mortality in ageing population required (Poster).
  • Claire O’Dwyer: Distribution of alcohol-related harm in Ireland: Evidence for the prevention paradox (Poster).
  • Deirdre Mongan: The tactics used by the alcohol industry to influence policy in Ireland (Oral presentation).
  • Michael O’Sullivan: The impact of alcohol in drowning deaths in Ireland, 2004-2016. (Poster).
  • Anne-Marie Carew: Treatment data – an evidence base to inform and measure alcohol policy’ (Poster).

The overall conference theme is: ‘Alcohol, Equity and Global Health: the benefit of alcohol control for sustainable development for all‘. This reflects the mission of the Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA), which is to ‘reduce alcohol-related harm worldwide by promoting science-based policies independent of commercial interests’.
