An evaluation of HRB investment in health research leaders

Since 2004, the HRB has invested €37.9 million to support the development of leaders in research in both the academic and clinical environments through the Research Leader Awards in Population Health and Health Services Research (RLA in PHHSR) and the Clinician Scientist Awards (CSA).

This evaluation was conducted by the HRB to determine whether these initiatives are achieving their aims and delivering the intended benefits, and to inform how we support researcher careers into the future.

The report presents the outputs and outcomes of this investment to date, together with the views of those funded. As well as demonstrating the success of these awards, it describes what has worked and what needs adjustment, and has already informed the development of HRB funding schemes aimed both at leaders and other researcher career levels. It will continue to inform the HRB's strategic priorities for future investment in this area.
