An Assessment of the Evidence Support System for Health Policy-Making in Ireland (RESSA)

Published: 06 November 2026

This report presents the findings of a Rapid Evidence Support System Assessment (RESSA) of Ireland’s evidence support system for health policy-making. Evidence support systems encompass the people, processes, structures, and resources that enable decision-makers to access and use research evidence, data, and analysis in a timely, transparent, and effective manner.

The findings show that Ireland has strong foundations for evidence-informed health policy-making. It identifies key areas of existing strength to build upon, as well as areas where improvement is needed. It sets out 11 practical recommendations aimed at promoting more consistent and effective use of evidence across health policy-making processes.

These findings are also published as a peer reviewed research article in Health Research Policy and Systems. This report and accompanying plain language summary are designed to reach wider audiences and support practical uptake.
