‘Patients will be the ultimate winners in this project which will equip GPs to make the best decisions about their care with the latest information available,’ says Dr Darrin Morrissey, Chief Executive at the HRB.
Dr Emma Wallace GP and Senior Lecturer in General Practice Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Principal Investigator for this study said,
‘The Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) produce evidence briefs for doctors. In partnership with the ICGP we plan to investigate every aspect of this process, from what’s the best way to go about selecting topics for evidence briefs in the first instance, to how do we present this information to doctors? We will survey GPs to find out what level of detail they want and how to they want to receive this information. We want to make the information as accessible as possible’.
Dr Velma Harkins, Chair of the Quality, Safety & Standards Committee and a member of the Board of the ICGP, stated
‘Quick Reference Guides have been the bedrock of clinical practice for GPs for many years. This research will further improve and enhance the guides to ensure that GPs can provide the best care possible to our patients. The College are thrilled that Dr Emma Wallace, a GP with such a strong record of academic and research achievement in her career to date will undertake this research for the College’.
This is one of six new Applied Partnership Award projects that the HRB is supporting. The Applied Partnership Awards are designed to bring knowledge users and academic researchers together to develop research projects that address a specific and short-term need within the Irish health or social care system.
