Postdoctoral fellowships for academic researchers in applied research
This scheme is part of the new HRB approach to how it provides research career pathways for those progressing along on their health research careers. It is tailored for those who want to pursue an academic research career path. There will be an explanatory webinar on 22 August 2019.

The second round of the Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme Applying Research into Policy and Practice (ARPP) 2020 will open on 19 August 2019.
The scheme provides a mentored post-doctoral period in a cross-sectoral and preferentially cross-disciplinary environment. It is intended for academic-based health researchers from different disciplines who already have some postdoctoral experience, and it will be also open to individuals currently working overseas. The scheme particularly emphasises the ability to apply research evidence to improve healthcare and health policy and to reduce the gap between research findings, health policy and clinical practice.
According to Annalisa Montesanti, Programme Manager at the HRB,
‘We want to provide an opportunity for researchers to consolidate their research skills and experience in applied health research in order to become more independent researchers who can subsequently apply to more advanced funding schemes in the future’.
Each fellowship will provide salary and related costs for the Fellow and contribution to research-related costs. It can be undertaken full time for three years or part-time up to five years. The HRB hope to make up to eight awards in this round.
