Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDA) in Patient-focused Research

Nine full applications are currently undergoing international peer-review. A two-day interview meeting will take place on 3 and 4 October 2019 followed by HRB Board approval in early November 2019.

European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP RD)

Three applications were invited to submit a full application by 11 June 2019 and these are currently under review.

Research Leader Awards 2020

18 eligible applications were discussed at the panel meeting on 26 June 2019 and 11 applications were invited to the full application stage. All applicants have been notified of the outcome and the full applications must be submitted by 19 September 2019.

Emerging Clinician Scientist Awards 2020

29 eligible pre-applications out of the 30 submitted were reviewed by an international panel on 2 July 2019. The panel recommended 12 applicants to be invited to full application stage. All applicants have been  notified and the full applications must be submitted by 26 September 2019.

Investigator-Led Projects

At its meeting on Friday of last week (26 June 2019) the HRB Board approved 24 Investigator Led Projects at a cost of €8.6m over four years. All applicants have been informed of the outcome.

Applied Partnership Awards

The Board also approved six Applied Partnership Awards at a total cost of €1M to the HRB for APA Cycle 1 2019 with leveraged funding of €0.25M from the knowledge user partner organisations. All applicants have been informed of the outcome.

Initiative for Parkinson funding

Arising out of a bequest to the Medical Council, the HRB Board has made two awards in the area of Parkinson research, one under the Patrick Quinn Award for Parkinson Research and one under the Investigator-Led Projects scheme at a total cost of €580k. All applicants have been informed of the outcome.

Proof of Concept model for ‘DASSL’ award 2019

The HRB Board approved one project under this scheme. The successful applicant has been notified.

Cancer Nursing Research Award 2019

Seven applications were submitted by the closing date and these will now undergo peer-review. The application and review process is managed by the Irish Cancer Society.

NCI-HRB Cancer Prevention Fellowship Programme 2020

In collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, the Health Research Board (HRB) is inviting applications from individuals working in the Republic of Ireland to become a Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the USA. Awards are for up to five years, including a reintegration year back in Ireland. The application closing date is 19 August 2019 for entry into the Programme in June 2020.
