Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2021
The Fulbright Commission in Ireland has completed the review of eligible applications and the outcome will be communicated in March.
HRB Clinical Trials Network (CTN) 2021
Following international panel review, ten applications were shortlisted and invited to submit a response to panel and public reviewers’ comments. Shortlisted applicants will attend an interview at the panel meeting, which is taking place from 24 February to 26 February 2021.
Collaborative Doctoral Awards in Patient-Focused Research (CDA) 2021
An international review panel discussed 22 pre-applications at a meeting in February and shortlisted eight to be invited to full application stage. All applicants have been notified of the outcome.
Cancer Trials in Ireland 2021
The call closed in mid-January. The HRB received 8 applications to the Cluster call and 1 application to the Network call. Applications were reviewed for eligibility and eligible applications were sent for international panel review in February.
HRB Clinical Research Facilities/Centres (CRF/C) 2021
Seven applications were received on 26 January 2021. HRB staff completed an eligibility check and applications are now under international panel review.
Ulysses Travel Grants
The HRB is partnering with the Irish Research Council’s (IRC) Ulysses travel grant to fund a number of research visits to France in three areas: Patient-oriented and clinical research, population health research, and health services research. Summer Student Scholarships 2021
131 applications were submitted on 21 January and 128 eligible applications are currently under review. The HRB will communicate the outcome in early April.
Open Calls
ERA-NET NEURON Joint Transnational Call for Proposals (2021)
The Joint Transnational Call supports “Multinational and Translational Research Projects on Neurodevelopmental Disorders”. It aims to facilitate multinational, collaborative research projects that will address important translational questions relating to the neurodevelopmental nature of neurological and mental disorders. The call is currently open and the deadline for submission of pre-proposals is 09 March 2021.
ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION Call for Joint Transnational Research Proposals (2021)
The Joint Transnational Call supports “One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)”. The call is currently open and the deadline for submission of pre-proposals is 16 March 2021.
JPI ERA-Net-HDHL Call for Joint Transnational Research Proposals (2021)
The Joint Transnational Call supports “Standardised measurement, monitoring and/or biomarkers to study food intake, physical activity and health (STAMIFY)”. The call is currently open and the deadline for submission of pre-proposals is 31 March 2021.

Upcoming Calls
Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe (2021-2027) is the EU’s next funding programme for research and innovation. Cluster 1 Health calls will launch in April 2021. The Work Programme is currently being developed. Secondary Data Analysis Projects
