HRB Postdoctoral Fellowships: Applying Research into Policy & Practice (ARPP) 2023

The Panel is currently reviewing the shortlisted applications and related documents. Nine candidates will be interviewed by an international panel on 5-6 September 2023. The funding recommendations will be then discussed at the next HRB Board meeting at the end of September. The HRB will then communicate the outcome to the Lead Applicants and their Host Institutions.

Doctoral Training Programme in Precision Medicine in Cancer (PMC) 2023

The application is currently under review. This call is under the auspices of the Ireland-Northern Ireland-National Cancer Institute Cancer Consortium, the HRB and the HSC R&D Division in NI. Applied Programme Grants Scheme (APRO) 2023

14 applications have been short-listed and the interview panel meeting for short-listed applications is on 5-6 September 2023. 

 Applied Partnership Awards 2022 (APA) Cycle 2

The APA Cycle 2 panel meeting took place in late June and applicants will be notified of the outcome from August.

Secondary Data Analysis Projects (SDAP) 2023 Cycle 1

All successful SDAP 2023-Cycle 1 applications approved by the HRB board are currently undergoing contract negotiations and will begin on 1 December 2023.

Rare Diseases Research and Innovation Catalyst Awards (RDCat) 2023

The call closed on at the end of June. One application is undergoing public and peer review and an international review panel will take place in September 2023.

Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2024

The 2024 round of the Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards eoened on 28 August 2023. The Fulbright Commission and the HRB are offering a unique opportunity for Irish professionals with five or more years’ experience in their field to travel to the USA to undertake research or professional development in any area of health. The closing date is 4.00 pm, 27 October 2023.

Investigator Led Awards (ILP 2024)

The 2024 round of the Investigator Led Awards opened 1 August 2023. The scheme aims to support highly innovative and internationally competitive investigator-led projects that can respond to emerging challenges for health and social care.

Secondary Data Analysis Projects (SDAP) 2023 Cycle 2

The scheme remains open for applications for Cycle 2, the closing date is 4 October 2023. The scheme supports bringing together researchers, knowledge users and data controllers to develop research projects that answer policy and/or practice-relevant questions through the use of secondary data.

HRB Rapid Response Mechanism to support Ukrainian researchers in crisis 2022 (Ucrisis 2022)

The grant scheme supports a named individual/s who have been displaced by the Russian invasion in Ukraine or who cannot return to Ukraine due to the invasion (and are being supported by the Irish Government under the Temporary Protection Directive). It is a rolling grant call with continuous intake and fast-tracked application review.

HRB Evidence Synthesis Award to Support Clinical Practice Guideline Development 2024

The HRB evidence synthesis award to support clinical practice guideline development 2024 launched on 2 August 2023. The aim of this open competitive call for proposals is to provide funding for one award for a period of four years to ensure expert and dedicated evidence support is available to support Guideline Development Groups (GDGs) working on National Clinical Effectiveness Committee (NCEC) prioritised topics. Health Research Charities Ireland-Health Research Board (HRCI-HRB 2024)

The 2024 round of the HRCI-HRB Joint Funding Scheme will launch in September 2023. The scheme aims to fund researchers and research teams to conduct internationally competitive and innovative research in areas of strategic relevance to each individual charity. Individual charities will set opening and closing dates.

Emerging Clinician Scientist Awards (ECSA) 2024

The 2024 round of Emerging Clinician Scientist Awards will launch on 7 September 2023. This scheme will undergo a two-stage application process. The scheme targets health and social care practitioners from any professional background who are involved in the delivery of patient or social care and are research active. The scheme targets individuals who are ready to transition towards research independence and can facilitate actionable knowledge in health research. The closing date is 23 November 2023.

Emerging Investigator Awards (EIA) 2024

The 2024 round of Emerging Investigator Awards will launch on 7 September 2023. This scheme will undergo a two-stage application process. The scheme targets academic postdoctoral researchers from different disciplines who are ready to transition towards research independence and can facilitate actionable knowledge in health research. The closing date is 09 November 2023.

 
Summer Student Scholarships 2024

Subject to HRB Executive Team approval in September, the 2024 round of the Summer Student Scholarships will open on 16 October 2023 and will close for applications on Thursday 14 December 2023. The SS scheme support undergraduate students in health or social care-related disciplines to complete short research projects during the summer. The purpose of the scholarship scheme is to encourage an interest in research and give students an opportunity to become familiar with research techniques. If successful, the students will start their scholarships in early June 2024. The new timeframe of this call aims to facilitate successful students and their supervisors to obtain the necessary approvals (ethics or animal) prior to commencing the scholarship.
