Cancer Prevention Fellowship Programme: The HRB Board approved the recommendation of the NCI interview panel and one award was made. The awardee with carry out a Master’s programme in public health (MPH) in the first year of the award in Ireland, before relocating for 3 years to the National Cancer Institute in the US.  

Emerging Investigator Awards for Health 2017: 22 candidates have been shortlisted following international peer-review and have been invited to interview by an international panel. This will take place at the HRB offices in Dublin on 22, 23, 24 of May with the final HRB Board approval expected at the end of June.

Investigator Led Projects 2017: The right to respond phase has closed and the shortlisted applications have now been allocated to the panel members for review. The panel meetings will take place late May/early June. Following board approval applicants will be notified of the outcome in July with successful projects starting from September.

PPI Ignite Awards 2017 – Supporting Public and Patient Involvement in Research: The outcome of the international review panel for the PPI Ignite Awards will be tabled at the HRB Board meeting on 18 May. Applicants will be informed of the outcome shortly thereafter. 

Summer Student Scholarship 2017: 39 awards were made following HRB Board approval on 7 April 2017. Applicants and Host Institutions have been notified.

ERA-HDHL call for Expressions of Interest for ‘Effectiveness of existing policies for lifestyle interventions – Policy Evaluation Network (PEN).  This call for an Expression of Interest closed in March and will be reviewed by an international review panel on 11 and 12 May 2017 in Berlin.  Applicants will be informed of the outcome shortly thereafter.

Collaborative Doctoral Awards in Patient-focused Research (CDA) 2018:  The Collaborative Doctoral Awards aim to support excellent doctoral training programmes in patient-focused research. Each Collaborative Doctoral Award will provide funding up to a maximum value of €1.5m for five years, to support the training and the research projects of a cohort of three to five trainees.

The HRB hopes to make three of these awards in this round. There is a two-stage application process and stage 1 ‘pre-application’ is currently open to applicants with a closing date of 28 June at 13.00. Following a panel recommendation in September a selected number of applicants will be invited to stage 2 and submit a full application.

Applied Partnership Awards (APA) 2017 First Peer Review Cycle: The APA 2017 call is currently open, and will remain open until 15 September 2017. 

The aim of the Applied Partnership Awards is to support high quality applied research projects through research partnerships between academic researchers and knowledge users in policy and practice.  The research projects should target research that will support the work of healthcare policy and service delivery partners. 

The first peer review cycle of APA 2017 closed on the 28 April 2017.  It is anticipated that successful applicants from the first peer review cycle with be notified of the outcome in October 2017. 

The second peer review cycle will close on the 15 September 2017 and successful applicants will be notified in April 2018.

Knowledge Exchange and Dissemination Scheme (KEDS) 2017: The KEDS awards are targeted at current HRB grant holders with the aim of accelerating the translation of research findings into policy and practice.  This is an invited call to all eligible grant holders that meet the following criteria:

  • The award must be active as of the 1 March 2017 and
  • Have an end of grant date of 15 December 2017 or later.
