New mental health section in NDTRS
2 min read - 25 Jul 2024
Effective from August 1st, 2024, a new section dedicated to mental health/dual diagnosis will be introduced to the NDTRS – National Drug Treatment Reporting System.
This development is a significant step forward in improving our understanding of the complex relationship between substance use and mental health conditions. The new questions, developed by the National Clinical Programme for Dual Diagnosis, the HSE and experts in the field, will provide invaluable insights for service planning and policy development.
Upon logging into LINK next week, you will notice a new tab titled ‘Mental Health’. Please note that the new mental health/dual diagnosis questions will apply to all new episodes recorded in LINK from August 1st, 2024. A short video demonstrating how to complete the new questions is available at https://youtu.be/oRXR32DX2SA, and the data collection protocol may be found below. At least the first two questions must be answered for all service users.
To streamline the process for existing open episodes, HRB staff will automatically populate the relevant fields with ‘unknown’. Historic or locked data does not need to be updated. In addition, recording mental health in the treatment details and drug use tabs is no longer required.
We appreciate your cooperation and support as we implement this important change. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the NDTRS support team at ndtrs@hrb.ie.
