HRB IT systems update

2 min read - 11 Mar 2026

The HRB had a precautionary shutdown of some of our IT services due to unknown activity on our systems.

At this point there is no evidence that any personal data has been compromised. We are working in conjunction with relevant authorities and normal business is gradually being restored.

It has been verified by our external forensic experts that:

  1. Our Microsoft365 environment showed no evidence of malicious or unauthorised access and it is safe for us to send emails again.
  2. Our online grant application system, GEMS, is a self-contained online system separate from the HRB network and showed no evidence of malicious or unauthorised access. It is operational and safe to use. Please note that steps in GEMS that require email notification may be subject to some delays, we appreciate your patience.
  3. Our online grant reporting and evaluation system, ResearchFish, is also operational and safe to use. ResearchFish is a third-party application that is separate from the HRB network. We can confirm there is no evidence of malicious or unauthorised access.
  4. LINK (NASS/NDTRS/NPIRS) showed no evidence of malicious or unauthorised access and is safe to use. There is no evidence that any personal data was compromised. We are now starting to restore access for all external users, but this may be subject to your host IT policies. If you have queries in the short term, please use the relevant contacts below:
