The new investment through the HRB’s Collaborative Research Networks Scheme will provide Dementia Research Network Ireland (DRNI) and the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care Palliative Care Research Network (AIIHPC PCRN) with crucial resources to expand their work, extend their reach and sustain their impact into the future.
This scheme reinforces our ongoing commitment to collaboration in research, and is designed to advance collaborative and interdisciplinary research, as well as its translation into policy and practice to tackle key health and social care challenges across the island of Ireland.
Commenting on the funding, Dr Mairéad O’Driscoll, Chief Executive of the HRB, said:
‘Our investment in these networks will help drive progress, advance innovation and support pioneering research partnerships in dementia and palliative care.’
The HRB’s €1 million funding to DRNI will help it grow its regional, cross-border and international work, and also extend into new areas of significant value to dementia research in Ireland.
The AIHPC PCRN’s award is co-funded by the Health and Social Care Research and Development Division (HSC R&D) of Northern Ireland. The €1 million award will advance palliative care research on the island of Ireland, driving impactful improvements in care and policy.
Dr Rhonda Campbell, Assistant Director, HSC R&D of Northern Ireland:
‘We are pleased to contribute €250,000 to the Palliative Care Research Network as part of the HRB’s €1M investment. By working together with stakeholders across the island of Ireland, this collaboration underscores our commitment to advancing palliative care research and improving the quality of life for people with life-limiting conditions.’
Catherine Gill, Programme Manager for Targeted Programmes at the HRB, said:
‘This new round of funding builds on the successes of existing HRB-funded networks. It represents a significant increase in investment and duration for both networks and will enhance their ability to build capacity and drive research that has a real impact on people’s lives.
