HRB appoints Dr Suzi Lyons as new Head of National Health Information Systems

Dr Lyons previously worked as a Senior Researcher in HRB’s National Health Information Systems Unit (NHIS) with responsibility for the National Drug-Related Deaths Index and the National Drug Treatment Reporting System. She brings extensive experience in public health surveillance data, research, addiction and mental health.
Welcoming the appointment, HRB’s Director of Health Information and Evidence and previous Head of NHIS, Dr Sarah Craig, said:
‘I am delighted to welcome Dr Suzi Lyons as our new Head of NHIS. Dr Lyons’ wealth of experience in managing health information and her expansive research expertise will bring valuable perspectives and knowledge to this instrumental role.’
Dr Lyons said:
‘I look forward to taking on the role of Head of NHIS at the HRB. I welcome this opportunity to work with colleagues and partners to further develop how we collect, analyse and use health and social care data. High quality information is central to improving services and health outcomes for the population and I am committed to ensuring the HRB plays a leading role in advancing this work.’
Before her time as a Senior Researcher with HRB, Dr Lyons worked as an epidemiologist with the World Health Organisation. She holds a PHD in Public Health and Epidemiology from University College Dublin and a Masters in Community Health, from Trinity College Dublin. She is an alumni of the European Programme in Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET). She also spent several years working overseas with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF).
