EU4Health is the European Union’s largest and most diverse public health funding programme with a budget of €4.4 billion across seven years.  Focused on Europe’s pressing health challenges and future preparedness, it has been instrumental in the implementation of EU health policy since 2021.

Commenting on the launch of the 2025 Work Programme, Amanda Daly, NFP for EU4Health and Programme Manager at the HRB, said:

“The 2025 Work Programme presents unique opportunities for those working in the health system in Ireland to access EU funding. If your work aligns with the Work Programme’s priority areas, I encourage you to get in touch for guidance on submitting a proposal. We can help those working in focus areas to prepare competitive applications, find project partners and enlarge their international networks.”

The Work Programme brings together a range of funding calls under five main strands:

  1. Crisis preparedness (over €380 million)
  2. Health promotion and disease prevention (over €7 million)
  3. Cancer, cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases (over €60 million)
  4. Health systems & healthcare workforce (over €71 million)
  5. Digital (over €39 million)

Two thirds of the 2025 budget is dedicated to crisis preparedness, and call topics under this strand focus on developing innovative medical countermeasures for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats and development of new diagnostic tests.

EU4Health also remains key to Europe’s Beating Cancer plan, and this year’s Work Programme is emphasising the implementation of new cancer screening programmes.  EU4Health also reflects the European Union’s goal to advance AI technologies in health, as demonstrated by a sizeable budget to drive AI in both clinical practice and biotech.
