Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute, Irelands only accredited Comprehensive Cancer Centre, is holding an international cancer conference ‘ Transforming Cancer Research and Care– Changing Lives’ to bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, and members of the public to share the latest knowledge and advances in cancer care. The event will focus on topics including cancer prevention and screening, cutting-edge research in new treatments, new developments in cancer immunology, and supporting cancer survivors.
A public session will highlight cancers in adolescents and young adults (AYA), and those diagnosed at a young age. This session aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of the unique challenges faced by these groups, both during and after treatment.
The purpose of the conference is to promote collaboration and learning across countries and specialties, so that better prevention, earlier diagnosis, and more effective, personalised treatments can be developed and shared worldwide. Sessions will cover how cancers grow, how the immune system can be used to fight cancer, and how to improve life after cancer, not just survival.
This event is important because cancer continues to be a major problem in Ireland, with the 2nd highest number of new cancer diagnoses in Europe. By sharing research and experience, we can speed up progress toward better outcomes and more compassionate care.
The target audience includes doctors, nurses, scientists, policymakers, patients, carers, and members of the public who are interested in understanding or contributing to improvements in cancer care.
Outcomes from the conference—including key research findings, new recommendations, and ideas for future work—will be shared through research publications and media coverage, ensuring that both professionals and the wider community benefit from the knowledge gained.
This event is an opportunity to learn, connect, and work together toward a future where cancer is better understood, more treatable, and more survivable.
