Background:
During pregnancy one of the major complications is gestational diabetes mellitus. Gestational diabetes presents with maternal and foetal risks which potentially could be prevented.
Sustainable and efficient strategies are needed for management of diabetes in pregnancy. In the contemporary world, technology assumes a pivotal role, prompting essential inquiries into its optimization for the enhancement of maternal health.
Aims:
The OneTouch Reveal mobile application was implemented at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) one year ago as a tool to assist patients in the management of their diabetes during pregnancy. This application facilitates the monitoring of trends in blood glucose levels, enables the establishment of individualized goals, and provides personalized tools for diabetes management. Moreover, it offers the capability to share readings and progress with healthcare professionals.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of the OneTouch application for patients with diabetes in pregnancy.
Objectives:
This study seeks to appraise the clinical effectiveness of the OneTouch application in the management of diabetes during pregnancy. This evaluation encompasses an analysis of app utilization and user engagement, an assessment of user experience and satisfaction, an exploration of the app’s compatibility with other devices, an investigation into its influence on glycaemic control, a scrutiny of maternal and foetal complications, and an inquiry into the perspectives and observations of healthcare professionals, all aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of the app’s impact in the context of gestational diabetes management.
Hypothesis:
Effective use of the OneTouch application by patients with gestational diabetes would allow for prompt intervention and close follow up leading to improved pregnancy outcomes.
