National Men’s Health Medicine Conference: Translating Research into Practice and Policy

Globally, men die five years earlier than women and have higher mortality rates for most leading causes of death. This national conference will bring together leading experts in multiple disciplines of men’s health medicine along with policymakers and patient representatives to share new knowledge and agree actions that improve men’s health in Ireland. Topics will include hormonal health (low testosterone, fertility and sexual function), prostate and urinary health, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, bone health and osteoporosis, mental health and wellbeing, exercise science and the specific needs of gay, and bisexual men. Sessions will combine research presentations, clinical updates, discussion panels and workshops. A special stream will give early‑career researchers a platform to present emerging work. Patient advocates and men with lived experience will help shape the programme and will be involved in presenting and evaluating the conference. We will provide accessible information (plain language summaries and recordings) and ensure the event is environmentally sustainable by using digital materials, hybrid access and reduced waste. Our goal is to translate evidence into practice, build a national network and highlight research priorities so that men in Ireland live longer, healthier lives.
