The D1 Now study aims to improve outcomes for young adults living with type 1 diabetes. We have successfully piloted the ‘D1 Now intervention’ and are moving to a full-scale trial. Our Young Adult Panel (YAP), a Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) group comprising young adults living with type 1 diabetes, has been a crucial part of our success since 2014 (Link).
Many of our original YAP members have transitioned out of the 18-25 year age bracket. They will remain involved as mentors for the next generation, YAP 2.0. The D1 Now study website was initially designed to share study findings and highlight YAP activities. Although we planned to maintain the website in its current form, YAP members emphasised its crucial role in attracting a new, inclusive cohort from across the island of Ireland. Moreover, in our Trial Management Group meetings, members highlighted the website’s potential as a tool in recruiting trial participants, particularly underserved groups like clinic “non-attenders”. Therefore, it is clear the website needs a significant upgrade to meet the evolving demands of our project.
The current website lacks the features needed to engage a young adult audience and support recruitment into the trial. We propose a comprehensive revamp, co-designed with YAP members, to make it more appealing and functional. The new website will include:
Improved navigation, accessibility, and tailored content to engage young adults.
YAP-designed interactive videos/podcasts, easy-to-use online registration forms, inspiring testimonials, and visual summaries of the YAP journey to attract YAP 2.0 members, research centres, and trial participants, especially clinic “non-attenders”.
A platform for sharing research findings and fostering stakeholder engagement, ensuring the broader adoption and impact of the D1 Now intervention.
This website redevelopment is essential for engaging stakeholders, recruiting participants and enhancing the reach and impact of the D1 Now study.
