The creation, growth and development of a baby during pregnancy is an incredible journey that usually results in the birth of a normal healthy child and a wonderful addition to its parents and family.
To ensure that the baby’s development is normal and healthy, the pregnant woman will have ultrasounds and bloodwork performed by her GP, midwives and obstetricians. Unfortunately, these tests occasionally show that an unborn baby has problems or is becoming sick as the pregnancy develops. The care of these pregnancies then passes on to specialised caregivers known as Fetal Medicine Teams.
These Fetal Medicine Teams take on the responsibility of determining the extent of the unborn baby’s problem, counseling the parents regarding options for care and when possible treating the unborn children, either with medications or surgical procedures. This care is carried out while also ensuring the safety and wellness of the pregnant woman.
To further explore these complex areas of pregnancy, we have assembled a group of world-renowned experts in order to host a 1 day expert-led workshop for Irish healthcare professionals about the diagnosis and treatment of the most common and serious problems that can complicate a baby’s development. In this intensive workshop we plan to use mixed-media presentations with small break out sessions to ensure that the future generation of doctors in Ireland will be at the forefront of knowledge about how to best help couples who have unfortunately encountered these very serious, but often treatable, problems for their unborn children.
This seminar will provide Irish healthcare professionals with a unique opportunity to learn about international research in the field of high risk obstetrics, increasing awareness and providing networking opportunities with world-leading obstetricians to discuss health policy, research strategies and explore funding avenues for future grant applications in the area of women’s health.
