LIR – Getting your Life back In Respite

The project is an evaluation and follow up of carers of persons with mental health difficulties before, 2 weeks after and 3 months after attending a 3 day respite break at De Exeter House, a respite and rehabilitation facility that provides individualized holistic care to carers. Carers’ quality of life, mental well-being, burden and the implications of their burden will be assessed using a number of questionnaires. With the use of statistical tests, findings will be compared with those of a group of carers that were not offered or who declined respite care at De Exeter House. Ultimately, the project aims to develop a new, evidence-based model of care that both revitalizes and better equips carers to tackle their day to day challenges. The project aims to support carers’ continuous commitment to the care they provide. Additionally, there is potential for the project to influence national policies regarding respite care grants for carers.
