The Irish Research Radiation Oncology Group (IRROG), is a HRB funded collaborative group uniting the five HSE radiotherapy centres under a common research function. IRROG comprises of:
• CUH Radiotherapy Department
• UHG Radiotherapy Department
• SLRON @ St. Luke’s Hospital, Rathgar
• SLRON @ St James Hospital
• SLRON @ Beaumont Hospital
Over the past 3 years, IRROG has successfully opened a national portfolio of radiotherapy clinical trials. The number of patients accessing interventional clinical trials in radiation oncology departments across Ireland has more than tripled since IRROG’s establishment.
Following on from a successful inaugural conference in January 2023 this proposal is to hold a conference at the end of 2025 to highlight the work IRROG has undertaken since it’s establishment. This conference will serve to promote the numerous clinical trials and research activities currently being undertaken across IRROG sites. The conference will also allow members of IRROG and the public to discuss how we can continue to improve equity of access to high quality cancer clinical trials in Ireland going forward.
The target audience will include all members of the multidisciplinary team engaged in radiation oncology research across the country as well as members of the IRROG PPI group and other patients and members of the public interested in radiation oncology research.
This conference is important as it will elevate the profile of cancer research in Ireland and enable increased collaboration and engagement between skilled multidisciplinary personnel in the Irish cancer research community and between other important groups enabling cancer research in Ireland such as our patients, the HRB, TMRN and Cancer Trials Ireland.
A conference report will be generated and disseminated online via social media and in leaflet form across IRROG sites. IRROG media contacts will also be invited to report on the conference to aid in publicizing IRROG’s achievements to date.
