Intersex Insights: Heritage, Visibility, and Recognition

Intersex Insights is a timely event addressing the complex issues surrounding Variations of Sex Characteristics (VSC), also known as intersex variations or differences/disorders of sex development (DSD). Scheduled for June 9th and 10th, 2025, at Dublin City University, this event marks the culmination of CHRISALIS, an EU-funded project under a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship led by Dr. Prandelli. It aims to bridge the gap between research, clinical practice, and policy-making to enhance the well-being of intersex individuals through research-led innovation.

The event will serve as a multidisciplinary platform where individuals with lived experience, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers can explore ethical, social, medical, and human rights perspectives related to VSC. This dialogue is essential as it addresses an often-overlooked aspect of healthcare and social inclusion, promoting greater understanding and holistic support for individuals with VSC.

Intersex Insights integrates the real-life experiences and needs of intersex people into broader health and social care discussions, advocating for informed care practices, dismantling myths, reducing stigma, and influencing policies.

Our target audience includes scholars, intersex activists, healthcare providers, policymakers, and the general public. This diverse group ensures a rich exchange of knowledge and experiences, broadening the impact of the discussions.

Additionally, on June 11th, we will host the first ever in-person event for Early Career Researchers (ECR) in Intersex Studies. This extra day provides emerging scholars from various contexts, backgrounds, and disciplines an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and network, further enhancing the developmental impact of the event and advancing intersex studies as an emerging multidisciplinary field.

Event outcomes will be disseminated through a dedicated website, published event proceedings, academic and mainstream media articles, and online session recordings (pending speakers approval), ensuring that insights and learnings are accessible to a broad audience and contribute to ongoing education and advocacy in intersex studies
