Health Data Analytics Summer School 2024

This event is designed to educate healthcare workers – without a background in data analytics, statistics, or computer programming – to analyse and interpret clinical data.

Data Analytics and Machine Learning approaches in health research are becoming core to healthcare research and policy change. Data is becoming more complex and large data is driving new medical discoveries. In order to support continued research, we need to educate and provide tools to staff at the helm of clinical research. This includes a defined commitment to train and support the next generation of healthcare personnel with the required tools to analyse their own research data.

The Strategy of the newly established Institute for Clinical Trials at the University of Galway includes Education as one of their key pillars, as such the Institute is committed to building capacity within our institution, our extramural partners and the entire Health research space in Ireland, to foster high quality data analysis in healthcare research. The proposed Summer School will provide intensive training and networking opportunities for healthcare professionals and academic researchers who wish to build skillsets necessary for tackling data analysis.

The 2024 Health Data Summer School will take place at University of Galway, June 3-6. We expect between 30-50 participants, including academic researchers, health practitioners and research managers.

The Summer School programme will consist of four sessions and each day will have a morning and afternoon component (incorporating both lectures and practical workshops). We also include networking events, such as the participant dinner.

The primary outcome of this event will be a to provide an in-depth individuals from academia and community, well equipped to undertake high quality PPI health research. A summary of the Summer School will be disseminated via the Data Analytics Hub at the Institute for Clinical Trials.
