We aim to expand our HRB-funded project by strengthening the cooperation between the research team, Diabetes Ireland (knowledge user), the general public, and target audiences. Additional activities will include writing and publishing two educational booklets focused on the importance of the association between diabetes and depression (and other mental health difficulties). One booklet will be tailored for people living with diabetes, while the other will be designed for healthcare providers. The purpose of these booklets is to provide comprehensive, accessible information that enhances understanding, promotes early identification, and encourages effective management of mental health issues in individuals with diabetes. The potential risk of type 2 diabetes that may be associated with depression will also be highlighted for healthcare practitioners. This initiative aims to foster better outcomes for individuals with or at risk of diabetes, improve quality of life, and support healthcare professionals in delivering holistic care.
Furthermore, we will produce live graphic recordings from two already-planned co-creation workshops, which will later be digitalized and published as summary posters. With the additional Knowledge Transfer funding to support live graphic recording, these workshops—featuring members of the research team, knowledge users, and PPI participants—will result in interactively drawn summary posters. These posters will capture the workshop discussions, providing an overview and serving as inspiration for potential future projects.
Together, these efforts will not only enhance collaboration between researchers and stakeholders but also improve awareness and education about the link between diabetes and depression.
