Enhancing the clarity, reach, and impact of core lessons from the ECHPI (Evidence for Children’s Palliative Care in Ireland) project

The ECHPI (Evidence for Children’s Palliative Care in Ireland) Project aims to address important information gaps on who needs children’s palliative care in Ireland. The target audience for this information includes a diverse range of knowledge users, researchers, policymakers, service planners, service providers, patients, and their families. This means that information and learning from the research findings needs to be translated for specific audiences to ensure it is relevant, accessible, and actionable. This is important for (i) influencing children’s palliative care policy, planning, and service delivery; (ii) promoting awareness of the role of palliative care in supporting children with life-limiting illnesses and their families; and (iii) informing future health services research in Ireland.

This proposal aims to enhance the sharing, exchange, dissemination, and application of important information generated from this study. Research findings will be translated into a set of well-designed and understandable infographics and short digital animations to ensure complex messages are easily understood by target audiences. These dissemination products will be co-produced in collaboration with the knowledge users, knowledge producers, and PPI project partners (i.e., the ECHPI Project Advice Team, including the All-Ireland Institute of Hospice & Palliative Care, LauraLynn Children’s Hospice, and the Irish Hospice Foundation). Specialist input from communication and visual marketing expertise will be secured. The final products will articulate evidence on children’s palliative care in Ireland that is accessible, meaningful, actionable, and relevant. The products will be promoted widely via the All-Ireland Institute of Hospice & Palliative Care’s (AIIHPC) Palliative Care Hub as well as on other media platforms including partner organisation websites. The ECHPI Project and associated knowledge translation activities are guided by the EMTReK (Evidence based Model for the Transfer and Exchange of Research Knowledge) model which was developed specifically for applied palliative care research.
