Empowering Research Nurses and Midwives: Fostering Excellence, Advancing Leadership

The Irish Research Nurse and Midwives Network (IRNM) was established in 2008 to support the educational and professional needs of Research Nurses and Midwives (RNM) on the Island of Ireland.
The RNM, by definition is an expert member of the research delivery team, who specialises in the management and coordination of research studies, and care of research participants, with emphases on patient safety; protocol integrity and research process; regulatory and ethical compliance; data management; education and advocacy. RNMs are instrumental in bridging the gap between clinical practice and research, ensuring the smooth conduct of research studies while prioritising patient safety and ethical considerations.
The 17th IRNM Conference, themed Empowering Research Nurses and Midwives: Fostering Excellence, Advancing Leadership, unites research nurses and midwives (RNMs) across Ireland for networking, education, and professional development.
Key agenda highlights include senior RNMs and health research experts sharing leadership journeys, oral and poster presentations, and a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) panel. This panel will explore the experiences of oncology patients, with insights from oncologists, RNMs, and academics, to improve practices and knowledge-sharing.
A skilled RNM workforce is essential to advancing the Irish government’s ambition to increase clinical trial activity. This conference ensures RNMs are equipped with the latest knowledge, best practices, and peer support.
Open to RNMs of all grades and healthcare settings, the event features international guest speakers, research presentations, and discussions on new initiatives. It highlights excellence, leadership, and empowerment, recognising RNMs as the largest workforce in Irish healthcare research.
To extend its impact, conference findings will be published on the IRNM website, shared via newsletters, and promoted on social media. This ensures knowledge and information reaches a wider audience, supporting ongoing professional development.
By bringing RNMs together, the IRNM conference strengthens the profession, supports career growth, and advances clinical research in Ireland
