This event is a public dementia research conference focusing on brain health and dementia risk reduction.
We know more than ever before about brain health and dementia risk reduction, and research in this area is developing rapidly. However, research from Ireland shows that the public lacks a strong understanding of brain health, dementia risk reduction and protective factors. This is critical, as 64,000 people are living with dementia in Ireland, and this is expected to rise to 150,000 by 2045. For every one person diagnosed, it is estimated that at least three others are significantly impacted by the diagnosis.
This event will feature leading research professionals and clinicians from across Ireland who will share the latest insights into these topics in an accessible format. The aim is to educate and empower the audience, equipping them with valuable knowledge and reinforcing that it’s never too early or too late to focus on brain health.
The primary audience for this event is the public, with an emphasis on people with dementia and family carers. Researchers and healthcare professionals will also be encouraged to register as the topic has broad relevance and networking opportunities will be provided. The event will take place in an accessible community venue with high public footfall, selected to ensure inclusivity and convenience.
This application, event topic and objectives have been co-developed with people living with dementia, family carers, researchers and clinicians. If successful, we will create an advisory group to guide the planning, running and dissemination of the conference.
The conference will be recorded with presentations made available on The Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s (ASI) YouTube Channel. A report featuring plain language summaries and suggested health promoting actions will also be created.
The event will be hosted by The ASI with support from Dementia Research Network Ireland.
