Maternity care in Ireland is currently undergoing reform, with the aim of creating a woman-centred model of care where women’s needs are central. Women’s satisfaction with pain relief in labour is crucial to their overall birthing experience, with wider benefits for maternal psychological wellbeing after birth and for the new family unit. As part of a larger survey examining women’s experiences of maternity care in the South/South West Hospital Group in Ireland, my research project aims to examine the types of pain relief methods used in labour, and if women felt satisfied with their care with regards to pain relief.
