Background: We are excited to host the 2nd All-Island Medication Safety Conference, an opportunity for individuals involved in medication safety—across research, education, advocacy, practice, and policy—to come together from across the Island of Ireland . This event will foster shared learning from best practice initiatives and research and strengthen cross-border collaboration.
Purpose: Medication safety focusses on the systems and practices to makes medicines use safer and to ultimately reduce harm to patients. This conference will share learning related to medicines safety.
Why: Medication safety is a significant healthcare challenge and is the subject of the 3rd WHO Global Patent Safety Challenge. The aim of this challenge is to reduces avoidable medication -related harm. Building on existing partnerships, the Department of Health Northern Ireland, the Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG), the Health & Service Executive National Medication Safety Programme, and the Irish Medication Safety Network (IMSN) are working together to broaden the reach and impact of the 1st conference held in Dublin, 2024.
Target Audience: The conference will be of benefit to a wide range of people involved in health care and medication safety including policymakers, patient representatives, multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, and academic researchers. A key highlight will be the poster and oral presentation competition, offering healthcare organisations a platform to showcase their patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Dissemination: To ensure the conference has maximum reach and impact, all outputs will be widely disseminated and made openly accessible to our intended audiences. This will include the use of Social media and a summary report hosted on multiple platforms e.g. SPPG and IMSN websites. This will also be shared with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) International Medication Safety Network.
