All Island Children’s Palliative Care Conference

It is estimated that there are over eight thousand children living with a life limiting condition in Ireland. These children and their families require various levels of care and support throughout their illness. Their care is delivered from many different healthcare professionals in many different settings including the child’s home, primary care centre, tertiary and regional hospital. It is essential that care delivered to these children and their families is accessible, equitable, and delivered by competent healthcare professionals who work closely together with appropriate communication to promote continuity of care.
The All Island Children’s Palliative Care Conference is an island of Ireland event whose purpose is to bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, caregivers and advocates within children’s palliative care. This networking opportunity, alongside presentations from National and International experts aims to encourage a sharing of knowledge, experience and palliative care research to improve clinical practice and influence policy in children’s palliative care. It provides a forum to highlight the voices and experiences of children and families receiving palliative care. Furthermore, it aims to help develop good working relationships among the many healthcare professionals and voluntary organisations involved in caring for children with life limiting conditions. This ultimately aims to improve the overall quality of care delivered to children with life limiting conditions and subsequently improving their quality of life.
It is planned to share the conference outcomes on the children’s palliative care website via video recordings of the presentations, posters and abstracts.
