This annual event brings together experts, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and individuals living with dementia to explore innovative approaches in dementia care and support. The theme for 2026 has not been chosen yet – for 2024 it was “Diversity in Dementia: Embracing Differences, Connecting Minds”, and for 2025 it is “Bridging Worlds in Dementia Care: Connecting Global Perspectives and Local Solutions” (FYI – only some speakers and no participants are from outside of Ireland)
The purpose of the conference is to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community advocates. With the number of people living with dementia in Ireland projected to more than double by 2050, it is essential to explore effective strategies to improve care, support families, and create inclusive communities. The event will showcase the latest research, practical interventions, and personal experiences, ensuring a well-rounded discussion on the future of dementia care.
The format is a main stage including keynote speeches, panel discussions, and other speakers; and a secondary room for other speakers and interactive workshops. The conference’s key insights and outcomes, presentations and discussions will be summarized in post-event reports, shared through Engaging Dementia’s website, newsletters, and social media platforms (where approval by the speakers is granted).
HRB Funding would allow the event to move from being an in-person only event to being live-streamed, allowing people from all parts of Ireland to attend as well. The funding would also allow the main stage to be recorded and be made available online via Engaging Dementia’s YouTube channel, enabling wider access to the knowledge and experiences shared at the event. By facilitating ongoing conversations and providing valuable resources, this conference aims to inspire meaningful action in dementia care and advocacy, as well as being a resource to those affected by dementia in Ireland.
