Applied Partnership Awards (APA) 2019 (Next call TBC)
The Applied Partnership Awards are designed to bring knowledge users and academic researchers together to develop research projects that address a specific need within the Irish health or social care system. Research findings will have a direct impact on decision-making in the knowledge user organisation.
This is a rolling call and as such there will be one round in 2019 with two separate peer review cycles. The closing date for Cycle 1 is the 25th January 2019. The closing date for Cycle 2 is the 13th September 2019
- Details about this award
The award supports applied research projects in clinical research, population health research and/or health services research that address health and social care priorities in Ireland.
The award requires a joint application encompassing both academic researchers and knowledge users. It must be clear how the knowledge user will be integrated throughout the project.
The outcome of the research should have a direct impact on decision-making in the knowledge user organisation.
The award will be for between 12 and 24 months.
A minimum co-funding commitment of 20% of the total award requested from the HRB must be provided by the knowledge user organisation. This must be a cash contribution. A cash contribution of greater than 20%, or additional in-kind contributions, is also welcome and is encouraged.
- Who can apply?
Applications should be made by a team of researchers and knowledge users.
Individuals in knowledge user organisations may be experienced researchers, but for this scheme, a lead applicant from a research group and a lead applicant from the knowledge user group are required.
Researchers should be at mid-stage or senior stage in their career. Experience in clinical research, population health research and/or health services research is essential.
- How to apply
This is a rolling call. Applications can be submitted at any time up to the second closing date. There are two distinct cycles – see ‘Key dates’ section of the guidance notes. This enables researchers and knowledge users to develop collaborations and to submit their application at the time that best suits them.
All applications must be made using the HRB Grant Electronic Management System (GEMS) grants.hrb.ie. GEMS will close automatically at the deadline.
The application must have been reviewed and approved by the signatory approver at the research office (or equivalent) in the host institution before it is submitted to the HRB. Therefore, applicants should ensure that they give the signatory approver sufficient time before the scheme closing date to review the application and approve it on GEMS. Please note that many host institutions specify internal deadlines for this procedure.Close
