The Health Research Board (HRB) is participating in the European Partnership on Transforming Health and Care Systems (THCS) Joint Transnational Call 2027 to support researchers based in Ireland in engaging in transnational collaborative research in the field of health and care systems under the call entitled “Transforming the Health and Care Workforce for Sustainable and Resilient Systems”.
The call is expected to launch on 16 November 2026 with a closing date of 21 January 2027 for pre-proposals.
THCS brings the opportunity to coordinate and optimise research and innovation efforts in Europe and its partner countries, supporting the much-needed transformation of health and care systems.
Under this umbrella, the fifth Joint Transnational Call for proposals aims to fund implementation-oriented research and innovation that accelerates the uptake, adaptation, testing, evaluation and scaling of evidence-informed approaches to health and care workforce transformation.
Building on existing knowledge and previously developed tools, frameworks and good practices, the call seeks to support health and education authorities, health and care providers, educational institutions and other relevant stakeholders in applying and sustaining effective workforce solutions in their specific contexts.
Proposals are expected to go beyond isolated measures and support the implementation and scaling of integrated workforce solutions that strengthen the capacity of health and care systems to attract, train, deploy and retain a skilled and resilient workforce. Proposals should clearly demonstrate how they build on existing evidence, initiatives and good practices, and avoid duplication of previous efforts. Projects should demonstrate how workforce transformation can support a shift towards population-oriented healthcare and apply implementation science approaches to identify barriers and facilitators to adoption, sustainability, scalability and transfer.
This call supports collaborative, transnational implementation-oriented research and innovation that accelerates the uptake, adaptation, testing, evaluation and scaling of evidence-informed approaches to health and care workforce transformation. Projects are expected to build on existing evidence, initiatives and good practices, and to support their implementation, transfer and scaling across diverse national, regional and local contexts. Projects should adopt an ecosystem approach involving relevant stakeholders and end-users to support implementation, uptake and long-term sustainability.
