HRB - key facts
The Health Research Board (HRB) is a State Agency under the Department of Health. We support and fund health and social care research and provide evidence to inform policy and practice. We have a staff of 75 and an annual budget of €45 million, and manage an investment portfolio of approximately €200 million. A ten-member Board oversees our work. Board members are appointed by the Minister for Health and serve a five-year term.
Our main areas of activity are:
- Funding research proposals and managing grants
- Conducting evidence reviews to underpin decision-making in health
- Managing data collections in the areas of alcohol and drug treatment and deaths, disability and psychiatric admissions and discharges.
