The Research Leader Award scheme aims to develop a cohort of people who will lead the generation of new evidence that will drive changes in people’s health, clinical practice, health care delivery and policy. It targets people in an academic setting who have a strong track record as investigators in their area of expertise and can demonstrate they are ready to transition to leadership.

According to Annalisa Montesanti, Programme Manager at the HRB,

‘We will expect potential candidates to demonstrate how they will create and deliver competitive research programmes, bridge the research to practice gap and deliver better health and care by developing strong partnerships with the health sector.’

The €7.5 million investment will support up to five awards. Each award will have a maximum value of €1.5 million, including overheads. Application for the award is a two-stage process. Stage 1 opens on the 4 March and closes on 9 May 2019.
