The Fulbright Commission and the Health Research Board (HRB) are offering a unique opportunity for Irish professionals with five or more years’ experience in their field to travel to the USA to undertake research or professional development in any area of health.

The Fulbright Commission and the Health Research Board (HRB) are offering a unique opportunity for Irish professionals with five or more years’ experience in their field to travel to the USA to undertake research or professional development in any area of health.
The Fulbright Commission is seeking excellent applicants with strong leadership potential and a commitment to the ethos of being a Fulbrighter. Applications from health professionals, senior health research administrators, health research managers and researchers in the following fields would be particularly welcomed by the HRB and the Fulbright Commission:

  • Research management in a healthcare setting
  • Development and implementation of institutional health research strategies
  • Public and patient involvement in health research
  • Health services and health systems research
  • Implementation research
  • Health research policy

This is an opportunity to undertake research or professional development in the USA for a period of between three and six months.

•    The applicant must be an Irish citizen, or an EU citizen who has lived in the Republic of Ireland for three or more years. They must hold an honours bachelor’s degree or master’s degree from a recognised college and they must have five years’ relevant professional experience.
•    They must have secured acceptance or affiliation with a recognised US institution.
•    The scheme is open to all healthcare disciplines Proven leadership qualities and potential are essential.
•    The applicant must have a clear understanding of what it means to be a Fulbrighter.
•    They must not be a dual US Irish citizen, Green card holder, or currently living in the USA, or already have extensive experience of studying or living in the USA.

Applications must be submitted to the Fulbright Commission
If you meet the eligibility criteria outlined above, please email awards(at)fulbright.ie stating:
•    Your full name
•    Intended area of study
•    Name of institution where you intend to undertake research or professional development
•    How long you intend to undertake research or professional development in the USA. The allowable period is between three and six months.
•    Home institution where you are currently employed.
Fulbright will then send you the link to the online application system (known as Embark) and the guidelines.
