Applications invited for two HRB Board vacancies

The Minister for Health invites applications to fill two positions, Chairperson and ordinary member on the HRB Board.

Applications from diverse, qualified candidates are encouraged to ensure the Board is a true reflection of Irish society, from all parts of Ireland.

As Ireland’s lead public funding agency supporting innovative health research and delivering data and evidence that improves people’s health and patient care, the HRB is committed to putting people first, and ensuring data and evidence are used in policy and practice to overcome health challenges, advance health systems, and benefit society and the economy.

The role of the Board of the HRB is to provide leadership; set strategy; ensure that human and financial resources are utilised to achieve objectives; review management performance; set the HRB’s values and standards; and ensure that the HRB’s obligations to its stakeholders and as a public sector organisation are understood and met.

Available positions

Chairperson

Candidates who wish to be considered for the role of Chairperson must meet the criteria set out for Ordinary Members and they must also demonstrate in their application evidence of significant experience at an appropriately senior level, including in at least two of the areas highlighted below: 

  • A proven record of achievement that demonstrates the necessary vision, leadership and management skills, and personal resilience to act as the Chair of a State Agency.
  • Experience in change management and strategic planning.
  • Experience in Governance, Risk Management and Compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including stakeholder management.

 

Ordinary Member

Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of experience at an appropriately senior level in at least two of the following areas:

  • Corporate Governance and compliance, strategic planning, financial management and regulation.
  • Management and governance of research involving multiple projects in receipt of funding from external organisations (Note: membership of a Research Ethics Committee is insufficient on its own).
  • Development and implementation of evidence informed policy
  • Development, implementation or governance of data infrastructure or large information systems or of data analytics.
  • Leadership in the delivery of health care or social care.
  • Management of complex organisations.
  • Stakeholder management
