Data collection process

The Health Service Executive areas administer the NPSDD. Individuals wishing to participate will be interviewed, ideally by their key worker or in the absence of a keyworker, by a data collector. An individual's record should be reviewed and updated with them annually. Access to this information within the Health Service Executive areas enables more sophisticated service planning at regional level and promotes effective co-ordination of local services. On an annual basis, the HRB extract information (excluding personal information such as name and address) from the NPSDD and publishes a report on this data. The HRB designs and delivers a standardised data collection training programme for Disability Database Managers in each Health Service Executive area, who then deliver this training programme to service providers. On-going advice and assistance is provided by the HRB to Health Service Executive areas and service providers on NPSDD data collection issues.
