Data collection process

The Health Service Executive areas within the Republic of Ireland administer the NIDD. Responsibility for providing the information to the Health Service Executive areas lies primarily with the service providers, Health Service Executive personnel and school principals. An individual's record is amended when there is a significant change in his or her circumstances. In addition to this, each individual's information is reviewed at least once a year. Access to this information at regional level helps to ensure more sophisticated service planning at Health Service Executive area level and promotes effective coordination of local services.

On an annual basis the HRB extracts information (excluding personal information such as name and address) from the NIDD and publishes a report on the data. The HRB designs and delivers a standardised data collection training programme each year for Disability Databases Managers in each Health Service Executive area, who then deliver this training programme to service providers. On-going advice and assistance is provided by the HRB to Health Service Executive areas and service providers in relation to NIDD data collection issues.
