Applications in Progress

Definitive Interventions and Feasibility Awards (DIFA)

The Board approved 12 awards following recommendations of an international Panel. All applicants have been notified.

Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2021 

The call closed in early November. Following the eligibility check the Fulbright Commission in Ireland will start reviewing the eligible applications.

HRB Clinical Trials Network (CTN) 2021 

12 eligible applications were submitted to the CTN 2021 call. Applications are currently undergoing international panel and public review. The outcome of shortlisting will be communicated to all applicants by 3 February 2021. 

HRB Impact Award 

The HRB Impact Award winner has been informed following approval of the panel recommendation by the HRB Board in December. The winner will be formally announced at the HRB Grant Holders conference in February 2021.

Collaborative Doctoral Awards in Patient-Focused Research (CDA) 2021

22 pre-applications were submitted on 17 December 2020 and the panel is currently reviewing them before the panel discussion in mid-February. After the meeting leadership teams will be notified if they have been invited or not to the full application stage.

Cancer Trials in Ireland 2021

The call closed in mid-January. The HRB received 8 applications to the Cluster call and 1 application to the Network call. Applications are being reviewed for eligibility and eligible applications will be sent for international panel review at the start of February.

HRB Clinical Research Facilities/Centres (CRF/C) 2021

The closing date for the CRF/C 2021 was extended by one week to 26 January 2021. HRB staff are currently checking eligibility. Eligible applications will be sent out for international panel review in early February 2021.

Summer Student Scholarships 2021

130 applications were submitted on 21 January. The HRB team is currently checking eligibility before sending the eligible applications for review.
 

Open Calls

Ulysses Travel Grants

The HRB is partnering with the Irish Research Council’s (IRC) Ulysses travel grant to fund a number of research visits to France in three areas: Patient-oriented and clinical research, population health research, and health services research. An application form and full details of the scheme can be found here. The deadline is 4 February 2021. For queries, please contact ulysses@research.ie.

ERA-NET NEURON Joint Transnational Call for Proposals (2021)

The Joint Transnational Call supports “Multinational and Translational Research Projects on Neurodevelopmental Disorders”. It aims to facilitate multinational, collaborative research projects that will address important translational questions relating to the neurodevelopmental nature of neurological and mental disorders. The call is currently open and the deadline for submission of pre-proposals is 09 March 2021.

ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION Call for Joint Transnational Research Proposals (2021)

The Joint Transnational Call supports “One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)”. The call is currently open and the deadline for submission of pre-proposals is 16 March 2021.

SFI-HRB-Wellcome Biomedical Research Partnership

Upcoming Calls

Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe (2021-2027) is the EU's next funding programme for research and innovation. Cluster 1 Health calls will likely launch in April 2021. The Work Programme is currently being developed. Joint Programme Initiative on Healthy Diet Healthy Life

A call will open on January 28, 2021 to support “Standardised measurement, monitoring and/or biomarkers to study food intake, physical activity and health (STAMIFY)”. The deadline for submission of pre-proposals is March 18, 2021. More information will follow on the HRB website funding page.
