Wellcome Trust - HRB Clinical Research Facility at St James's Hospital

The Wellcome Trust - HRB Clinical Research Facility at St James’s Hospital is co-funded by the HRB and the Wellcome Trust. The Wellcome Trust (WT) funded the construction and fit-out of the CRF building, and the HRB funded the operating and staffing costs for a five-year period.

This 1,300 m2 facility on the St James's Hospital campus, was opened by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, on the 30th May 2013. It is a partnership between Trinity College and St James’s Hospital, and is under the directorship of Professor Michael Gill.

Facilities include consultation rooms, an exercise physiology suite, a neuropsychology suite, positive and negative pressure isolation rooms, pharmacy and sample processing. The WT- HRB CRF at St James’s Hospital provides patients with access to the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer, neuro-psychiatric disorders and infectious diseases, and will develop a programme of advanced therapeutics.

The CRF is adjacent to the HRB-funded National Centre for Advanced Medical Imaging (CAMI) http://www.3tcentre.com. CAMI is currently the only 3 Tesla (3T) whole-body MRI scanner dedicated for research in Ireland at a hospital site.
