HRB Clinical Research Facility Cork

The HRB Clinical Research Facility Cork (HRB-CRFC) is located at a number of sites around Cork University Hospital.

The CRF's administrative centre and its Adult Research Unit are located at the Mercy University Hospital. The Paediatric Discovery Unit, which offers a purpose-built child-friendly environment, is based on the Cork University Hospital campus. The Research Support Hub maintains a variety of research offices and units located throughout University College Cork and its affiliated hospitals (which cover the southern and south-western part of the Republic of Ireland).

The CRFC supports a wide range of academic and commercially funded research, including both interventional trials and observation studies, across pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, medical device and primary care pathway themes.

The HRB CRF-C has a core staff of sixteen and is led by its Director, Prof. Joseph Eustace. The team includes;

  • research nurses
  • a research pharmacist
  • a bio statistician
  • a data manager
  • a senior lecturer in research methodologies
  • a quality and regulatory affairs manager
  • a business manager.

This team supports all stages of the research life-cycle, such as, feasibility and design, regulatory approval, quality systems, accrual of participants, and data management.

The HRB-CRFC opened in 2011, in since then has been particularly successful in attractive European funding, alongside income from national research funders and industry.
