European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership

The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) involves 14 EU countries, Switzerland, Norway and a number of African countries. Its aim is to help fight HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis in developing countries, with the overall goal of reducing poverty by improving the health of populations. The programme objective is to accelerate the development of new or improved drugs and vaccines against these diseases, with a focus on phase II and phase III clinical trials in sub-Saharan Africa.

EDCTP funding is awarded on a competitive basis through:

  • Clinical Trial grants
  • Networking Grants
  • Capacity Building Grants
  • Training Awards
