Abstract:

The study provides a deeper level of understanding of what recovery is (i.e. reconnection with life) and guidance on how it can happen (through an active reconnection with self, others and time).

Preferred individual strategies of reconnecting with life can be effectively combined with therapies and supports available in the services. In the wider community these can be allied to specific tasks of reconnecting with self, others and time.

The identified underlying processes, strategies, facilitators and barriers of reconnecting with life can equip all mental health stakeholders to evaluate and develop effective recovery-oriented policy, education, practice, research and mental health promotion strategies.
